With nearly a month since their last physical drop and two digital releases in-between by Into the Ethos and 明晰夢のキャッチャー  (Lucid Dream Catcher), respectively, we’re excited to see No Problema Tapes set themselves up for a double whammy. This Friday, May 7th, expect a multi-format physical reissue and a brand new album on tape.

First is a two-in-one album reissue, NOP-186: Rainforest HIll [I+II] by Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza, known to friends and family as Cesar Alexandre. Sadly, Cesar passed away on April 15th of this year, and accordingly all money raised through this sale will go to benefit their family. Previously released in multiple pressings on Asura Revolver, the roughly hour long meditative release will see a simultaneous run of tapes and minidiscs, each in 50 beautifully LED printed copies.

 

The other release comes from OSCOB, who will be making their No Problema debut with NOP-190: 宇宙ステーションV (Space Station V). This album tells the story of an artificial intelligence on a space station with the ability to run complex experiments on its own biosphere. Unlike the Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza release, this album is being issued solely on cassette, but the tapes will similarly be limited to 50 copies.

探求: sleep&dream and エミュレータ albums coming to No Problema Tapes

 

Coming off of a mammoth drop a couple weeks back that saw No Problema Tapes release two tapes apiece from both S O A R E R and 陶酔エンジン (Euphoria Engine), things take on more of a — dare we say — dreamlike quality this week. We get not one, but two dreamtone tapes: a re-release seeing a physical drop, and the other brand new.

First up, we have UK producer 探求: sleep&dream seeing a reissue of their album 空想 (Fantasy). It originally released on No Problema’s digital platform in July of 2020, but it will be making its physical debut this time around. The 40-minute ambient release will see a run of 50 tapes, with the expected amount of incredible creativity we’ve come to expect from No Problema releases.

 

探求: sleep&dream エミュレータ 1

The other release comes from エミュレータ (Emulator), who will be making their debut with this No Problema Release, 反復的な睡眠パターン (Repetitive Sleep Patterns). A 60-minute excursion consisting of six tracks all clocking in at exactly ten minutes, the release is sure to offer something for ambient fans. As with the 探求: sleep&dream release, the tapes will be limited to 50 copies.

No Problema Tapes Announces Next Group of Releases

 

Coming hot off the heels of the staggeringly gorgeous Abandoned 実体 box set, No Problema Tapes has announced a new group of tapes to be released on March 5th. The new batch of tapes will see two new physical releases apiece for label regular S O A R E R as well as label newcomer 陶酔エンジン (Euphoria Engine).

The first release is a second run of S O A R E R‘s Without End, a slushwave album heavily influenced by the sound of 2814. Without End was their first sample-free project and their first physical to appear on No Problema Tapes. The album had an original run of tapes last October, and this new batch will be limited to 60 copies.

The other release from S O A R E R will be Silent Whispers, a brand new release consisting of over an hour of new music. This album is described as a dreampunk release heavily informed by the confluence of big cities and the sense of isolation that can come with that. And just like with the reissue of Without End, Silent Whispers will be limited to just 60 copies.

As for the 陶酔エンジン releases, the first one up is a reissue of their first No Problema physical, 未知への憧れ (Looking For The Unknown), which previously released in October of 2020. The release is a compilation of tracks produced between 2017 and 2020 and clocks in at a titanic 87 minutes. Though no run size was listed, it’s probably safe to expect it to be comparable to the S O A R E R releases.

And then 陶酔エンジン’s other release is a brand new album, 星の精 (Star Spirits). If the name were indication enough, Star Spirits leans heavily into the territory of space ambient and hopes to take listeners on a cosmic journey that clocks in at almost exactly an hour.

Strawberry Station Stepping Away From Future Funk For A Bit


Odds are, if you listen to future funk, you’ve at least come across Strawberry Station’s music. One of the bigger names in future funk— a genre that is absolutely vaporwave, don’t @ us—- Strawberry Station dropped a video on YouTube recently, outlining his plans going forward.

 


After admitting to a degree of burnout, brought on by too much focus on social media and not enough time spent on making music for the reason he started, “Strawb” announced he’d be stepping back from the scene for a bit and putting his focus elsewhere. In this case, that new focus is his Patreon subcribers.

“The rest of the year’s dedicated to them,” Strawb mentions in his announcement video. This focus will result in a collection of regular new content just for patrons. The intent seems to be to give back to his strongest supporters as well as find the fun that was once there for him when it came to making music.

The video also ends with an especially interesting announcement. For anyone who is a patron by December 1st, they will have the chance to nab a Patreon-exclusive cassette, A Song To Show You, which will feature each of the tracks that will be released through Coraspect, as well as a half dozen additional new tracks that go a bit beyond the realm of future funk. It’ll be limited to a first-come, first-served run of 25, and the whole package looks rather lovely.

Windows96 Adopts New Name

Amidst the myriad of new releases on the most recent Bandcamp Friday, one curious piece of news manifested on Twitter:

Windows96, a wildly versatile artist with many great releases starting with 2015’s Vibes, is changing their name. Newly-minted “Gavriel” debuted their album In The Worlde on October 2020’s Bandcamp Friday.

You can find the tweets here, but it’s a pretty quick exchange. Gavriel no longer likes the old moniker –which they very strongly clarify- and wants to move to something new. The important thing is that the music will keep coming, and it will likely continue being great!

Gavriel has their own artist account on Spotify, without affiliation to the prior work under Windows96. So if Spotify is your platform of choice, make sure you follow the new account, which you can find here. Although for the time being, the Bandcamp seems to be the same place as before.
